Return of the Light

Return of the Light

This is an adventure you will not soon forget... with the perils of the Commonlands, a wasteland taken over by creatures of the night, you have your work cut out for you!

There is a creature called the Lightbringer Wisp who likes to play over the barren lands of the old Druid Rings in the Commonlands. This creature is very shy, and therefore is not seen very often. So when you do... jump on the opportunity! While he appears to be a gentle creature, have no doubt. Given the right circumstances, he would just as soon be done with you than have you tread upon his lands.

Once you slay this creature, his remains will provide you with a tiny silver ball, which is called a burned out lightstone. At first glance it does not appear to have any special attributes... however, you are not quite certain that it is not valuable in any way.

It all starts with a little innocuous fellow located under a tree near The Crossroads, by the name of Cannix Silverflame. He's a nice enough fellow, I suppose, but you shall soon discover that he might just be more trouble than he is worth! Cannix is at first rather guarded about his ability to discern the value of certain objects. When you first speak with him, be sure to inquire about him... do not be put off by his attempt at turning you away! In time, he will be amenable to listening to your questions... and may also examine your new treasure for you and provide you with information.

According to Cannix, if you take the lightstone to the Mourned and the Forgotten, you can begin the journey of bringing the light back into your Lightstone. The Mourned and the Forgotten are two toppled statues of heros long since dead that are located somewhere in this wasteland. Cannix does not provide any information where to search... so with caution go through the valleys and the vales, travel into the villages and off the beaten path. You are sure to find them out there... they are large. Ask the locals if they know... but do not ask the Orcs! They would just as soon eat you as give you directions!

After you return to Cannix, he will infuse some light into your stone. However, it needs more... so Cannix will send you off to find the symbol of valor... a lion by the name of Rama'Nai... who lurks in the same area where you found the Lightbringer Wisp. Rama'Nai is not one to face a challenge lightly, however. Therefore, in order to bring him from hiding one must begin culling his herd of lionesses. While not a pleasant task, it is a necessary one. Once you anger him enough, this proud lion will make his appearance.

This ferocious creature does travel with some of his favored lionesses, so be careful! Once you defeat him, return to Cannix for more information. He will once again infuse the stone with more light... however, this is not the completion of the adventure. Cannix advises that there are more steps needed. This time, his need is for the rightings of some wrongs. You see, there are some orcs out there that send their minions to defile graves at night. These two orcs are Captains, by the name of Gaer and Ogof. Now, both are actually cowards, and hide behind their underlings. So you may need to track down and kill their lesser officers, Sergeant Reag is Captain Gaer's underling, and Sergeant Fogo works for Captain Ogof... who, incidentally, must be a distant cousin, considering the similarity in names.

Once you have dispatched both of these foul cretens, return once again to Cannix. He shall be waiting patiently for you. His next task involves righting a wrong of ages past. You see, once upon a time the Priests of Marr and the Knights of Truth were the ones to administer to the people of these lands. However, the evil lord Lucan L'Dere despised these good priests, and destroyed the order. Most of the priests were killed before the Shattering, the rest were scattered to the winds. The High Priest, however, was a different story. He was executed in a brutal fashion and his remains never given a proper burial. They can still be found today lying behind the Ruins of Marr in the Commonlands. Cannix requests that find the tortured soul of the High Priest of Marr, and finally lay him to rest. To do so, you need to call forth his spirit to reanimate his desecrated bones. Defeat the spirit and you will finally lay the priest to rest.

Now... you are almost there, but not quite! Cannix still has one more task for you. To this point, you have righted many wrongs, and taken steps to prevent many more wrongs from happening. But now... one final thing needs to be done. When the Knights of Truth were still in existence, prior to their desecration by Lucan L'Dere, they wielded the Swords of Truth. These swords have been lost, but word has reached Cannix that there may be one that has been found. A particular Orc is said to have the pieces to a Sword of Truth, and Cannix asks that you retrieve it for him. With the pieces, he can fully infuse your lightstone and it will become a Greater Lightstone. He beseaches you to seek out General Drull, who is in Bloodskull Valley.

Bloodskull Valley is a treacherous place. This is the stronghold of the orcs, and you will fight your greatest battle here. It is advisable that you not go alone, as you will be attacked by waves upon waves of defenders. General Drull keeps many advisors close by, and they will all come to his aid if necessary. And these orcs fight with no honor. They will attack you without mercy, and you may fall under their great might. Only a strong group of trusted and skilled warriors will succeed. Once you defeat the minions of General Drull, he will come himself to attack you... running from his quarters with anger and determination in his eyes...

If you are successful in defeating this foul creature, you can then return to Cannix. He will ask for the sword pieces and the stone from you, and will then empower the stone with Light, Truth, and Valor. However... be careful. Cannix may not be willing to turn over such a wonderful object... instead, wishing to keep it for himself and his Order. Also, there may be others in search of the not only the Lightstone, but also the pieces to the Sword of Truth! Guard him carefully...

Or at least, make sure his attackers do not get away. Once they are dead, search Cannix's body for the Greater Lightstone.

It is... afterall... you who did all the work. Right?

Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of a Greater Lightstone! This item can either be worn, or placed in your home as a trophy of your success!
