Qeynos to Freeport Betrayl Guide by Darras - Permafrost

Before starting anything, please ensure you claim all the things in your house and you relinquish it. If you don't, you will not be able to get a new house/apartment in Freeport. If you forget, fear not, you can still sneak back into Qeynos, but it's a huge pain.

As everyone else has stated, this is a long quest. It's not necessarily a difficult quest, there are many things to do. I thought that killing 500 orcs was long, but the longest was waiting almost 20 hours in total for the various NPCs to spawn. The longest being 4 hours straight. So please have patience when you start this and it's best to have friends to help you out.

Now, onto the guide. It may be a somewhat long read, but it's full of useful information. I suggest reading the entire guide before starting. I included a section on quests you may want to start once you are in the Commonlands while you are betraying.

PART I - The Betrayal

Start off by finding NPC Cordun Brenland. He is in an Inn in Qeynos Harbor. Use the 'Find NPC' feature. He sometimes offers you a quest to kill some sea turtles, you do not need to do this to betray. If you picked up the quest, you can delete it later on.

Cordun will send you to the Vermin's Snye to speak with his accomplice, Remy. The quickest way to get there from the Inn is head to the North East part of Qeynos Harbor and zone into the Down Below from there. In the same room as the zone to the Harbor is the entrance to the Snye.

Remy is a merchant at the entrance of the Snye. Talk to him to continue the quest.

Go through the dialogue with Remy and he will end up sending you into a private instance where you must kill some guards. Once you zone in, do not move. Buff up if needed (or do so before speaking to Remy). There will be 2 guards in the first room. Both where white con to me at level 15, solo rated. Easy enough kills.

Once done with the two guards, don't move. Stay put until you are fully rested as you have another fight ahead of you. Move towards the stairs the guards were guarding and you will see a named body guard. He was yellow con, solo at level 15. After killing this body guard, you will go visit the Queen.

Get through the dialogue, and she ends up killing you. The shard you lose will NOT be recoverable. You will have to wait 3 days to get it back.

PART II - Finding a New Home

After being killed by the Queen, you will wake up on a beach in Antonica in front of a Ratonga NPC (his name escapes me, but it's not a big thing). He will tell you that he has saved your life and that you must now head to the Commonlands to meet with Matthias Siegemaker.

To reach the Commonlands from Antonica:
- take a griffon ride from the nearby Qeynos Gate Station (loc 331,533) to the Thundering Steppes station

- once in the Thundering Steppes, head South along the path until you reach the second tower (loc 388, -520). At this tower, you can either go West or South, chose the south road. You will come up to a bridge that goes over a valley. Cross the bridge and then head east along the wall of the valley, avoiding the undead as much as possible. At the end of this valley is the bell that will port you to Nektulos Forest (loc +573, -439). There are a few ways to get to the Bell, I found that this was the easiest for me.

- Nektulos Forest is pretty nasty. There are many aggro mobs along the road and off the road. Its best to have some friends help you through. If possible, group with a level 25 character so that the mobs in the forest become grey to you. Here are the directions to get out of the forest.

- From the Mariner's Bell, head due North East to a small pass that goes through the mountains (loc 660,-270). Follow the pass until you come into the forest.
- Now here is the major aggro part. The basic directions are go straight East until you hit a river, then follow the river south until you reach the zone to the Commonlands. There is a path for you to follow, but the chances of you sticking on the path are thin.

Congrats! You are now in the Commonlands!

- Matthias can be found at a little North West of the Hidden Canyon Station (loc of Matthias is 722, 434). From the Nektulos zone, run SE to the Nektulos Griff station and fly over to the Hidden station. Get to know this loc as you will be coming back here a few times during the quest

PART III - Time to Become Evil

Matthias will give you a set of tasks to accomplish. You can do them in any order. Here is the list of tasks:

- Kill 500 Orcs. They can be any con, anywhere.
- Kill Dinas Drefelin. Loc 580, 213. North of the Hidden Canyon Station. He roams the area known as 'The Ruins'
- Kill Dolfor Mochdre. Loc 1300, 233. Straight west from Dinas in the Yapping Maze. He roams this general area. Careful, lots of aggro mobs around. Stick to mountain walls when traveling.
- Kill Glan Mostyn. Loc 520, 573. In the SE part of the Commonlands. Roams this general location. A good place to hunt orcs to fill your 500 orc quota and get exp at the same time...bring a few friends.
- Kill Grug Gieft. Loc 285, 52. Roams the area between the two giant stones and the elephant gathering spot.
- Kill Garreg Stonecrusher. Loc Wailing Caves. Roams the second room where there is a fire pit.

I would suggest trying to do the named mobs first and while searching for them, kill any orc you can take down. By the time you get the named mobs done, you should be nearly done with the 500 orc quota. At that point, you can head to the area just south of the Crossroads (Crossroads at loc -487,-229) where there are many grey and green orcs.

A few notes on these NPCs. Their respawn timers have been rumored to be up to 3 hours. So if they are not up when you check, make sure you check in every instance, as they could potentially be there.

Return back to Matthias Siegemaker. He is happy with your progress but gives you a new set of tasks to complete. These next two tasks are what most betrayers complain about. They have to be done in order, and each time you screw up, you will be fined 1 gold. I cannot remember the exact words of the conversations, but I will do my best to give as much info to help you make the right decision. The key to these two encounters is that you have to be sneaky and deceitful. Basically, you have to lie your way through these.

Note that the same idea of checking all instances for the NPCs applies here.

The Message Runner
Your first task is to find the Message Runner and get information from him. He roams the area between the Freeport main Gates and the Crossroads. He is usually along the path, but I did once spot him a little North East of the path. So make sure you have a wide enough search radius

You have to convince him of your made up story so that he gives you information. There is only one part of the conversation where you need to chose. So read both choices well, and remember, you are trying to lie and convince him that you are on his side.

If done correctly, you will find out that there is another NPC involved. The Message Runner will then try and kill you. He is a white con to a level 17. Bring a friend to make sure you have no problems.

Cargomaster Libertius

This one was a little trickier for me, hopefully you will find it easier. The Cargomaster can be found at the Freeport Docks (loc +1038, -646). He spawns right beside the dock. There is a Mariner's bell here which will give you quick access to checking other instances.

You can do this step solo as there will be no fighting with the Cargomaster. This discussion will have you chose the correct answer 3 times! Yep, that is a total of 3 chances to have to pay up 1 gold.

With this NPC you have to really answer as if you are good. Again, you are trying to deceive him and make him believe that you believe in him. Do not chose any insulting answers, do not threaten to kill him, do not tell him 'the Queen will die next time'. From what I remember, the first choice has an option where you call the Cargomaster a do-gooder. This is not a good choice, it's an insult. The second one you threaten to kill him. Again, not good. The third has you saying that the Queen might die next time, again, don't go this way.

With that in mind, you should breeze through the choices. I've given this advice to many others and they went through it quickly.

Do not take too much time with the Cargomaster in deciding what you will answer. If you take too long, he will disappear. And I mean looong...as in a minute or so.

Once Cargomaster is dead, return back to Matthias Siegemaker. He has some more tasks for you to do:

First off, you will need to get a ring from a man named Aethus Kasyn (loc -1232, -500). This NPC is always up. He is along the edge of the map, between the docks and the graveyard.

Second, you will need to take a medal from a woman named Grandma Twirlwhizzer. (loc -506, -263). Again, this NPC is always there. She is in the Crossroads village.

Third, take a childhood relic from a man named Stalker Granis (loc 485,480), again, he is always there, no respawn time. He is straight north of the Hidden Valley Gryffon station. Aggro skeletons and rats around. Although you should be used to this little area by now.

For the previous 3 NPCs, play the role of a totally evil person. You want what they have and don't take no for an answer. You are evil, mean and uncaring. No mercy. Take their items, make them cry, make them beg. The choices in text you will have to make are obvious. Remember, you want their stuff.

Bring back all the items to Matthias Siegemaker.

Seek out a traitor to Freeport and confront him. His name is War Duke Gesarius. (loc 1092, -401). The Duke doesn't move, so he should be fairly easy to find. He is near the entrance to the Yapping Maze, SW of the Nektulos Gryffon Station (pass Zarvon's tower). He will offer you a bribe (was a trophy when I did it). Do NOT take the bribe. Kill him. He is white con to a level 17. Bring a friend or two, but should be easy enough.

Head back to Matthias Siegemaker. You are now done. Welcome to the dark side!

PART IV - Oh noes! I forgot to relinquish my house!

Not a big issue. You can sneak back into Qeynos following these steps. The hardest part is getting through Nektulos Forest again. Although you would have an outline of where to go on your map now that you have already done it.

- Find a friend who has a water breathing spell (druids/shamans I know of). Make your way back through Nektulos Forest and Thundering Steppes.

- Once in Antonica, I would suggest NOT using the Mariner's Bell. You have to steer clear of guards, and there are always guards posted near Mariner's Bells (might be one where there isn't).

- South of the South Qeynos gates, there is an under water zone into the Peat Bog. The approx loc is 500, 474. Swim in and zone. This is where the water breathing can come in handy, but it's really not a necessity.

- From the Peat Bog (there are no guards), you can find a zone into the Vermin's Snye (loc 579,506).

- Once in the Snye, you can head to the Down Below zone spot which is found in the same room as the zone to the Peat Bog (loc 111,-94).

- Once done, feel free to complete any outdoor quests you may have had pending.

- From the Down Below, you can find the zone where your house was in and attempt to relinquish it. Stay away from any and all guards. If you have Qeynos friends (or an alt in Qeynos), would be a good idea to have the movements of the guards ahead of time.

PART V - Conclusion and Extras

As already stated, time and patience are the keys to this quest. It's not very hard, but many times my fellow betrayers and myself wondered if it was the right thing to do. How many other Freeportians have a Welcome to Qeynos book in their house?

Your temporary home will be the Crossroads town. It will allow you buy and sell basic goods and even a good place for a few quests.

Here are a few quests that you can pick up while in the Commonlands. Hey, why not get as much as you can done while you are betraying.

Dealing with the Bloodskulls
Talk to Sergeant Borus (loc +933,-12). He is near the broken towers just west of the West Freeport Gates. The quest will require you to kill Orc Shaman and/or Warriors.

Dirty Sneaky Rats
Talk to the Master of the Hunt (loc +1042,-245) who is right near the Dog Pond. He will ask you to kill some Dreg Sneaks to get a journal. The Sneaks are at the end of the south-west road out of the Crossroads (+228,-17). You'll get a couple of silver and choice of 1 of 3 weapons.

An Abandoned Boat
While at the Dog Pond (loc +1042,-245) there should be a boat. Examine it to receive the quest. You must kill 15 Carrion Hounds for a 1 silver/33 copper reward

The Search for Bloodskull Valley (access quest)
You won't be able to finish it, but while you are hunting Glan, there is a Wounded Scout (loc 283,505). Talk to him to at least start the access quest for this nice 20+ raiding zone.

Grum's Inspiring Axe
In the Crossroads, there is a building with an axe on the wall behind Impelia Abertus. Click on the axe to receive this quest. You will need to kill 15 Sandstone Giants (in the Yapping Maze)

Lore and Legend - Orc Mastery
In the same room as the axe is a shield. Click on the shield to start the Orc Mastery quest. You will have to collect some orc parts (eye, tooth, skin, ear, spine, spirit, brain, heart). Seeing as you will be killing 500 of these, best to get this early on. Reward isn't awesome, but hey, it's a reward (and exp).

Potion Making
Again in the Crossroads, speak to Arconicus in the middle of the village. He will ask you to kill 10 wisps. The wisps are just south of the Freeport Gryffon Station, usually around trees. There is a second part to the quest, you can figure that out on your own.

There are more quests to be had in the Commonlands. Some are within the zone, some will require you to go to the Wailing Caves or even to zones you don't have access too (and too Freeport as well). These are just a few that I did while I was betraying as the orcs and named I needed to kill are in the same general area as these quests, so why not kill 2 birds with 1 axe.

PART VI - My Thanks.

I would like to say a quick thanks to a few people on the Permafrost server who have helped me complete my Betrayal and become an evil dwarf!
- Tabithas (my wife), Ganthet, Dukat. My 3 fellow betrayers. Wouldn't have been able to do any of this without you guys.
- Zemric and Ankamma, members of Shadow Realm who stepped forward to help us through many encounters.
- Shadow Realm guild for giving us a home in Freeport and being so welcoming. It's great to be part of a guild that supports its members as you guys do.

Best of luck to you all!
